Richie Myler scored two late tries as Warrington made it two wins from two at the start of Super League XV.
The Wolves, scorers of 11 tries against Harlequins last week, found the going tougher at The Jungle but two mistakes allowed them to recover from 14-10 down.
Stand-off Lee Briers turned the tide with an interception try, before new signing Myler seized on a loose ball to touch down and later added another.
Warrington had trailed 10-0 in the wet and cold conditions after early Cas tries from James Evans and Joe Westerman, but were level at 10-10 at the break following a Simon Grix score and Chris Riley's sixth of the season.
A second Evans try gave Cas hope of following up their stunning first round win at Leeds but Warrington finished strongly.
The Tigers were forced into an early change as Paul Jackson took a heavy knock in a clash with Garreth Carvell.
But the hosts were not disrupted too much and their early endeavour brought two tries in the opening 21 minutes.
Evans claimed the first as he took a Brent Sherwin pass and cut inside to score after Ryan Hudson had created an opening by throwing a dummy from acting half.
Smart handling
Westerman converted and then followed up with another try as he finished off a smart handling move involving Sherwin and Ryan McGoldrick, after a Rangi Chase kick had forced Warrington back.
Warrington had created little until then, but that changed just before the half-hour as a sustained spell of pressure that included winning a penalty and a scrum eventually paid off.
Briers almost scored himself as he chased his own delicate kick but as the ball bobbled just out of his reach, Grix dived in to make sure.
Briers added the conversion and then slid through a delicate kick to the corner for Riley to pounce and level the scores at 10-10.
Warrington needed to show their defensive capabilities early in the second period and held out as five defenders got back to prevent Hudson touching down.
But Richie Mathers spilled a Sherwin kick and Evans was quick to sense an opportunity and rushed in to claim his second try of the night and third of the season.
Intercepted
It gave Cas an advantage that proved short-lived as Briers intercepted a Chase pass to level again, but a Westerman penalty inched the Tigers two points ahead.
But again Cas were unable to cling on and a mistake proved their undoing as Hudson lost the ball and Myler gathered to race in and score.
Chris Bridge kicked only the third conversion of the night to put Warrington 20-16 in front. Castleford thought they had equalised again through Hudson but the video referee ruled a knock on.
They were awarded the consolation of a penalty as replays unearthed a late Adrian Morley tackle on Sherwin but they were unable to take advantage.
A Bridge penalty gave Warrington more breathing space and victory was assured when Briers kept play alive after a drop goal attempt went wrong and set up Myler for a late converted try.
