Julian Edelman made an unbelievable catch as the New England Patriots beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in Super Bowl LI

In one of the greatest sporting comebacks in history, Julian Edelman played a crucial role.

The New England Patriots wide receiver had five receptions for 87 yards, but made one of the most pivotal plays in the game.

With the AFC Champions down by eight, less than three minutes left on the game clock, quarterback Tom Brady threw a pass deep down the middle towards Edelman.

Battling with Falcons safety Keanu Neal and cornerback Robert Alford, Edelman grabbed the ball but it looked as though he may have dropped the pass before securing the catch.

However, replays confirmed that though the ball escaped Edelman's grasp, he was able to react and catch it off Alford's leg before it hit the ground, leading to a 23-yard gain.

In a game full of impressive plays, including two sideline grabs from Julio Jones, Edelman's catch proved pivotal, and the Patriots went on to tie the game at 28-28, before James White clinched victory in overtime.

The Super Bowl has seen some phenomenal catches over the years, including Jermaine Kearse's diving play two years ago, and David Tyree's helmet catch in Super Bowl XLII, which helped to set up victory for the New York Giants.
