Standing 130 yards from the pin with an iron in his hand, Westwood took aim sitting at one-under par for the Championship.
Seconds later and a huge cheer went up as the Englishman's second to the fifth rolled to the rear of the green, caught the slope and rolled straight into the middle of the cup for a sensational eagle.
On a day of spectacular holing out from the fairway, Westwood followed Gregory Bourdy, Yusaku Miyazato and Jon Rahm in leaving the putter in the bag for a hole.
And it's not the first time this week for Westwood who did the same on the 14th on day one, although this time his fabulous shot took him into a share of the lead after Dustin Johnson's troubles on the third.
