Venus Williams cruised into the third round of the US Open with a straight sets win against Julia Goerges.
The elder Williams sister continued her career resurgence at her home Grand Slam, beating Goerges 6-2 6-3 on Thursday for her 70th win at the tournament.
Sixth seed Williams, 36, is a two-time winner at the US Open but hasn't captured the top prize at Flushing Meadows since 2001.
World No 5 Simona Halep, who reached last year's semi-final, also progressed from the second round with a 6-3 6-4 win against Lucie Safarova.
