Fan favourite Andrew 'Beef' Johnston received an unusual official welcome from the first tee announcer as day two got underway at Royal Birkdale on Friday.
The 28-year-old Englishman carded a one-under 69 in the first round after recovering from a shaky opening which saw him bogey the third and fifth holes.
He was the first man out on day two, teeing off at 6.35am, alongside Adam Hadwin and Todd Hamilton.
Wearing a huge smile as usual, Johnston strode out onto the tee box and waited for his name to be called. He looked as surprised as anyone to hear that the announcer decided to call him by his infamous nickname that he has made his own over the past 18 months.
Unlike Thursday's opening shot, where Mark O'Meara sent one straight out of bounds, 'Beef' smashed one straight down the middle to the delight of the patrons around the first tee.
