Tiger Woods slumped to a new low at one of his favourite courses as he hacked his way to a horrendous 13-over 85 on the third day of The Memorial in Ohio.
The five-time champion continued his downward spiral since returning to the game following back surgery last year, and his torrid third round at Muirfield Village represented the worst round of his professional career.
Woods, who took another extended break from the game after his second-round 82 at the Phoenix Open, put four balls in the water over the last 10 holes and also fluffed two chips at the last as he ran up a humiliating quadruple-bogey eight.
The former world No 1 had done well to make the cut late on Friday when he got up and down from short of the green at the last to scrape into the weekend with nothing to spare.
But he could have been wishing he had made an early exit midway through his third round as he bogeyed four and five, left a ball in the bunker in a double-bogey five at the eighth and then dunked his approach to the ninth into water en route to another double-bogey.
After an outward 42, the trend continued after the turn as Woods also found water at the 11th to start a run of three dropped shots in four holes, although he did manage a wry smile after making his only birdie of the day at the long 15th.
But the smiles disappeared when he found water again at 17 and bogeyed, and the way he scrapped his way up the last was a distressing sight for his loyal legion of fans worldwide.
Woods pulled his drive way left into a creek, and was just short of the green in three before he fluffed a chip which ran back off the green, and he put his next pitch into the front bunker, splashed out to 20 feet and two-putted for the ugliest of eights.
