Chris Wood is full of praise for the new-look West Course at Wentworth which has undergone another face lift ahead of this month's BMW PGA Championship.

A number of players were critical of the greens 12 months ago and since then all 18 putting surfaces have been stripped of their old turf and reseeded with a new type of grass.

The greens on eight, 11, 14 and 16 were completely rebuilt while another five (third, fourth, fifth, 12th and 15th) were partially rebuilt.

All 18 have also been installed with a sub-air system which is also in operation at Augusta National.

This is the second time in less than seven years that the West Course greens have required a refurbishment, but work was not simply restricted to the putting surfaces.

All of the course's bunkers have been redesigned since last year's event and a total of 29 were removed completely.

Wood, the reigning champion who played the course on Thursday, said: "It's night and day compared to last year. The greens are absolutely fantastic.

"Every putt you hit is so true and that's probably not what the players have been used to the last couple of years here.

"You cannot expect perfect conditions in the UK in May, but I think this proves it can be done. I can't see any player moaning about the greens this year.

"I know Henrik (Stenson) has shied away from the event because of the greens, but he is playing this year and I can't see why he would not come back year after year."
