Rory McIlroy has been named the European Tour’s Golfer of the Month for November after his season-ending victory at the DP World Tour Championship.

McIlroy ended the year as Race to Dubai champion and European No 1 for the third time in four years following his victory in Dubai, claiming a one-shot victory over Andy Sullivan.

The world No 3's win extended his record in the season finale to six top-five finishes in seven appearances at the Earth Course, having produced strong showings in previous starts earlier in the month at the Turkish Airlines Open and BMW Masters.

"I think it's the first time I've won the Golfer of the Month this year, so it is important to me to be rewarded in this way," McIlroy said. "I'm glad I saved my best for last and ended the season on a high note.

"It really meant a lot to win both the DP World Tour Championship and The Race to Dubai again, especially having had to play so well over the weekend to beat Andy, and winning the Golfer of the Month is now another nice bonus.

"I'm now looking forward to taking some time off before getting ready for next year, and this is a great way to round things off."

McIlroy beat off competition from Turkish Airlines Open champion Victor Dubuisson and BMW Masters winner Kristoffer Broberg for the award, while Dubai runner-up Sullivan, compatriot Matt Fitzpatrick and Rookie of the Year Byeong Hun An had also been considered.
