Wayne Riley takes us through the dangers of the infamous Bear Trap at PGA National, venue for this week's Honda Classic

This week's Honda Classic at PGA National features one of the most notorious three-hole stretches in the world - the fearsome Bear Trap.

Named after the great Jack Nicklaus, who was responsible for redesigning George and Tom Fazio's original layout in 2002, the 15th, 16th and 17th holes strike fear into the world's best players year after year.

You cannot miss the plaque situated between the 14th green and 15th tee which warns "you are now entering the Bear Trap", which is accompanied by words of wisdom from the Golden Bear himself: "It should be won or lost right here."

The 15th and 17th holes are both dangerous par-threes of less than 180 yards, but the targets are small and club selection can be a huge dilemma in blustery conditions - mainly due to the vast expanse of water that separates the tee and green on both holes.

And there is little respite at the par-four 16th, a dog-leg right with water in play on the entire right side of the hole and little room to bail out towards the left.

Live PGA Tour Golf

The Bear Trap has become one of the most recognisable stretches of golf on the PGA Tour since the Honda Classic moved to the Palm Beach Gardens venue in 2007 and, as Sky Sports commentator Wayne Riley finds out, there will be plenty of card-wrecking potential before the tournament concludes on Sunday.
