Patrick Reed maintained his 100 per cent start to the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play on Thursday, where he signed off his victory against Charl Schwartzel in style.
The Ryder Cup star made it two wins from two in Group 4 by following his opening-day victory over Haotong Li with a 1up success over Schwartzel in a tight contest at Austin Country Club.
Reed trailed the South African by two at the turn and but pulled level with pars over the first two holes of his back nine, before responding to Schwartzel's birdie at the 12th by winning his next three holes.
Schwartzel halved the deficit with a birdie-four at the 16th and appeared to have the advantage when Reed missed the fairway by some distance on the final hole, only for the American to rattle the flag with his approach from the rough and leave a tap-in birdie.
Reed's victory means he shares top spot in his group with Jordan Spieth, setting up a winner-takes-all clash on Friday to see which player progresses to the knockout stages.
