George Coetzee got a lucky break from the grandstand during the third round of the Volvo China Open

George Coetzee received one of the luckiest breaks of the season to card a final-round eagle during the third round of the Volvo China Open.

The South African carded a one-under 71 on moving day at Topwin Golf and Country Club, but needed a huge slice of fortune to end the day in red figures.

Coetzee bogeyed two of the first four holes and cancelled out a birdie at the sixth with a dropped shot at the next to reach the turn in 38.

The world No 142 was still over par for the day when he reached the par-five last, where he sent his tee shot in to the middle of the fairway.

Coetzee tried to attack the green in two but saw his approach head left towards the big grandstand, only to rattle off the frame of the stand and race within six feet of the flag.
