Dylan Frittelli grabs three-shot advantage at Volvo China Open

Dylan Frittelli fired a bogey-free 64 to grab a three-shot lead over Pablo Larrazabal at the Volvo China Open.

The South African struck eight birdies in another blemish-free display at Topwin Golf and Country Club, following on from a course record-equalling 63 on Friday.

First round leader Alexander Levy lies seven shots back in third, with Chris Wood a further shot adrift following a seven-under 65.

Larrazabal held a three-shot lead at the halfway stage and extended his advantage to four with a birdie-two at the second, only to three-putt the fourth as Frittelli made his first birdie of the day.

Frittelli holed a 12-footer at the sixth before grabbing the lead with a birdie at the next, to capitalise on a long-range three-putt at the same hole from Larrazabal.

A third consecutive birdie from Frittelli at the par-five eighth gave the Challenge Tour graduate a two-shot cushion at the turn, which he saw halved when Larrazbal picked up a shot at the 10th.

The pair posted matching birdies over the next two holes, before Frittelli birdied the short 15th and got up-and-down from the bunker to save par at the next.

Larrazabal bogeyed the par-three 16th to move Frittelli three clear, with the leading duo closing with matching birdies.

Wood shot up the leaderboard with six birdies in his first nine holes, while compatriot Ross Fisher fired a hole-in-one at the par-three sixth on his way to a joint-low round-of-the-day 62.

Shenzhen International champion Bernd Wiesberger sits tied-fifth with South Korea's Kyongjun Moon, with Fisher on nine under alongside Yi Cao and defending champion Haotong Li.
