Daniel Berger is forced to concede his match after injuring his hand playing a shot

Daniel Berger's hopes of staying in contention at the WGC-Dell Match Play came to a painful end late on in his group match against Phil Mickelson.

Looking to bounce back from his narrow defeat to Patrick Reed on Wednesday, Berger came back from behind three times against Mickelson to leave the pair all square heading to the par-four last.

Mickelson gave himself the advantage with a monster tee-shot to leave a short chip to the green, as Berger sprayed his opening blow a long way left and precariously close to a rocky wall.

Left with little room to swing back and get his approach close to the pin, Berger tried to attack his second shot but found himself clipping the wall and missing his ball completely.

With the connection to the rocks causing Berger pain in his wrist, the American conceded the hole and the match to give Mickelson his second win in as many days.
