Despite his back injury, Jason Day hit a huge drive with his first shot of the day

Jason Day's quashed any early concerns about the state of his back with a monster tee shot at the opening hole of his group match against Thongchai Jaidee.

There had been doubts as to whether the world No 3 would even take part after he injured his back on Wednesday during a 3&2 win over Graeme McDowell, with Day heading to straight to the clubhouse for treatment after his victory.

Having made the decision to play, Day let rip a humongous opening blow at the 391-yard par-four which took advantage of the wind and the slope to stop within 11 feet of the pin.

From there, Day confidently drilled in to open with an eagle and get off to the perfect start.
