The Qatar Grand Prix made its debut in 2021 at the Losail International Circuit. Due to the FIFA World Cup, there was no Qatar GP in 2022, but it will return in 2023 as part of a 10-race deal that runs until 2032.
Lewis Hamilton dominated the inaugural race from Max Verstappen in the third to last race of the dramatic 2021 season. Fernando Alonso also took his first podium for seven years.
Losail is not new to motorsport, having hosted GP2, MotoGP, World Superbike and WTCC events since the track was opened in 2004.
It's a fast, flowing venue for F1 cars which does it make it difficult for the car in front to follow. In fact, there is just one DRS zone, on the home straight, which underlines the twisty nature of the 5.38km track.
