Lucy Garner has been forced to pull out of next week's Aviva Women's Tour with two fractured ribs.
The 21-year-old two-time world junior champion from Leicestershire has opted out of the high-profile British event after crashing early on in the Keukens van Lommel Ladies Classic last weekend.
Garner, a Sky Academy Sports Scholar, is still able to ride her bike, but any sustained effort causes pain, so she will sit out the Women's Tour, which begins in Southwold on Wednesday June 15 and finishes in Kettering the following Sunday.
"It's just one of those things," said Wiggle High5 rider Garner.
"It's such a big event, and a huge goal for the team, so to have been selected was really good for me because I know that a lot of the girls wanted to do it, and it's a really strong team going."
Garner is now likely to start the Giro del Trentino Donne in Italy the following weekend, before racing in the British Championships in Stockton-on-Tees on June 26.
"By then, I should be feeling a bit better, and I'll have had a good week training, and I think that can really help with Nationals," she added.
