Peter Moores has said there will be no rest for England’s leading Test wicket-taker, insisting James Anderson will be back on duty in the second Test against the West Indies.
Anderson took four wickets in the series opener in Antigua to move past Sir Ian Botham and set a new record of 384, even though it was far from easy going as he toiled through just under 48 overs for his spoils.
At 32, Anderson is now reaching the stage where a fast bowler's body can begin to rebel, particularly during back-to-back Tests.
But England coach Moores confirmed Anderson will earn his 101st cap when England walk out in Grenada on Tuesday.
He said: "We're going to look after Jimmy but Jimmy loves to play. Our main focus is the next Test match and Jimmy will be in that.
"One thing that's made him such a great bowler is his hunger to get better every day. He wants to master his craft and he's desperately keen to build on the wickets he took in the last Test.
"Top-flight sport is top-flight sport; you can't wrap people in cotton wool.
"Jimmy is a better bowler when he bowls, because he works on skill and feel.
"We have to be realistic, we can't absolutely nail our players but they're fit and they're strong and there are breaks."
