LeBron James will not bid to win a third Olympic gold medal for the United States in Rio de Janeiro next month.
The Cleveland Cavaliers star, part of their NBA championship-winning side, confirmed on Thursday he would not be joining the team in Brazil after a long season.
"I could use the rest," James told cleveland.com.
The 31-year-old was part of successful United States basketball teams in Beijing eight summers ago and at London 2012, and he also won a bronze medal in 2004 in Athens.
He joins fellow stars Stephen Curry, Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook in withdrawing their name from consideration for the Olympic team.
