Bath head coach Mike Ford has accepted that he could lose his job if results do not improve.

His side finished runners-up in the Aviva Premiership last season but they have struggled this campaign, winning just three out of eight domestically, and currently occupy ninth place in the table.

Ford, who revealed he met with owner Bruce Craig and senior players to discuss the team's current form, said he has the support of the club but knows poor results cannot continue.

He told Sky Sports News HQ: "We had a meeting, three senior players, we met and we talked things through: 'What is happening? How can he [Craig] support us? How can we get better and through this and change the momentum pretty quickly?'

"He has been unbelievably supportive but I'm not daft - if you don't win, you constantly lose, you are going to lose your job."

Bath were in the spotlight in November when Sam Burgess decided to leave the club to re-join South Sydney Rabbitohs after a year in union and following England's early exit from the World Cup.

Ford questioned his players after the 19-14 defeat to Newcastle on January 2 and said he was looking to get a reaction ahead of their 12-9 Champions Cup loss to Toulon on Sunday.

"I've been head coach two-and-a-half years and I've never questioned the players' commitment. I know them very well and I know the reaction I'd get from them, and sometimes you can hide behind closed doors," he said.

"I know you want to keep things in-house most of the time but sometimes when you put it out there, the players have got nowhere to hide.

"We have not played well this year, we have been stop-start. We have had one or two good performances, one or two poor performances and it came to a head at Newcastle where we had to have a really good look at ourselves."

Despite results this season, Ford believes the players and the club will be all the better for the experience in the long run.

"We believe the way we play is the right way and we just need to execute better. When you don't win, most of the time your confidence gets knocked and instead of going half a yard to the line, you are that half a yard away from the line and it makes a difference.

"When we come through this storm we are in at the moment, everybody will be better as an individual and Bath Rugby as a team and an organisation."
