Leeds Rhinos have finally moved back to their Kirkstall training base after dealing with a severe flood disruption over the last six months.

The Rhinos, champions of last year's Super League, were forced - along with Yorkshire Carnegie - to train elsewhere when facilities at the Kirkstall training base became contaminated following the bursting of the river Aire's banks over Christmas.

Despite their success last season, Leeds currently sit bottom of the Super League and coach Brian McDermott has said the disturbance from the flood has played a part in their struggles.

Restoration to a gym, changing rooms, physio and rehab areas, doctors room, ice baths, theatre rooms and kitchen areas began in March and was completed for an official re-opening by deputy leader of Leeds City Council Cllr Lucinda Yeadon on Friday.

"It is a fantastic feeling to return to our home facility after six months away," said Leeds chief executive Gary Hetherington.

"On behalf of everyone connected with Leeds Rhinos, the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Yorkshire Carnegie, I would like to thank all those organisations across Leeds and the wider community who have welcomed our teams over the last few months to share their facilities.

"Without the generosity of the many clubs, universities, schools and gyms who helped to accommodate us it would have been extremely difficult to have continued the work that we do."
