Warrington will be without veteran forward Ben Westwood for the start of the Super 8s after he was handed a three-match ban.

The former England second rower was sin-binned for a dangerous throw on Leigh forward Danny Tickle during his side's 50-10 win over the Centurions and charged by the Rugby Football League's match-review panel with a grade D offence.

Westwood pleaded guilty at Tuesday's disciplinary hearing but challenged the severity of the charge. However, the independent tribunal ruled the grading was correct and imposed a £300 fine as well as a three-match suspension.

Westwood will miss Thursday's game at Wigan and Warrington's final game of the regular season against Widnes as well as the opening fixture of the play-offs.

The Wolves need to win both their last two league games to try and avoid appearing in the Qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Leigh prop Jamie Acton's disciplinary hearing was adjourned for a second time following a request from his club, who are arranging for a lawyer to represent their player.

Acton is facing the possibility of an eight-match ban after being charged with "other contrary conduct" during his side's defeat by Catalans Dragons 10 days ago.

The Centurions agreed not to select Acton for Friday's game at Huddersfield which means he will have in effect served a two-match ban by the time the hearing is heard.
