Salford owner Marwan Koukash intends to personally present his club's case for the restoration of the points they lost for allegedly breaking the salary cap.

The Red Devils were deducted six competition points and fined £5,000 on April 25 after being found guilty by a Rugby Football League independent tribunal of breaching the Super League's £1.82m salary cap in 2014.

Koukash immediately signalled his intention to appeal and the RFL agreed to his request to take it to the independent body Sport Resolutions (UK). That hearing will take place in Manchester on Wednesday, July 6, and Koukash will take the lead on behalf of his club.

"I am being advised by my lawyers but I have every intention of presenting the case," Koukash said.

"I am confident because we did not go over the cap and we have evidence to prove it.

"I'm looking forward to it. It has caused me a lot of anxiety and stress but I am determined to fight on behalf of our players and fans."

The outcome of the appeal could have crucial bearing on the make-up of the top eight, with just three rounds left after the hearing before the split for the Super 8s.

The penalty dropped Salford into the bottom four, facing a second successive battle for survival through the Qualifiers, but a restoration of the six points, based on current positions, would take them into eighth spot at the expense of Widnes.

Meanwhile, Salford have also discovered the date of their misconduct hearing.

A tribunal will sit at the RFL's Leeds headquarters on Wednesday, July 14, to determine if the Red Devils ought to be punished for the crowd trouble at the end of their Super League game at Huddersfield on Easter Monday.

Salford players Junior Sa'u and Justin Carney entered the John Smith's Stadium stand housing the visitors' supporters in order to protect their families caught up in fighting.

Koukash again intends to defend his club, arguing that they could have done little to prevent the trouble caused by a small group of men apparently on a stag do and pointing out that they have already punished the offenders by issuing life bans.

"We are still waiting for the evidence but I don't understand what the club could have done to avoid the trouble," Koukash said. "The only thing we could do is what we have done by banning those responsible."
