St Helens have agreed to take up captain James Roby's option for 2019, which will extend his stay with the club to 16 seasons.

Roby, who made his debut in 2004, has played his entire career for the club, winning two Super League titles, three Challenge Cups and being named Man of Steel in 2007.

The 32-year-old is a member of St Helens' '400 club', having appeared in 409 games, and continues to hold down a regular role as he plays his 15th season with the team.

"I'm really happy to stay at my hometown club," said Roby, who has also appeared 42 times for England and Great Britain combined.

"Although there is a long way to go this season, everything is going well and I'm looking forward to the rest of the year and next.

Coach Justin Holbrook added: "This was a very easy decision to make. As captain, James is a leader within the group and quite simply one of the best players in Super League.
