Leeds coach Brian McDermott has revealed England international Brett Ferres has agreed a new three-year deal with the Super League club.

The 30-year-old has been a key figure for the Rhinos throughout his first season at Headingley and will remain with the club until at least the end of 2019.

Ferres joined the Rhinos on an initial 12-month contract from Huddersfield on the eve of the 2016 season and has made 19 appearances so far.

In fact, the former Bradford, Wakefield and Castleford man has played more minutes than any other forward at Leeds during their injury-hit campaign.

"I am sure he will benefit from his first season at the club and will be stronger for it next season. Our focus now is on the Qualifiers and building on our recent improved performances and I am sure Brett will be a big part of that."

Ferres is delighted to sign the deal and is looking forward to getting the club back on track after a tough season.

How does the Super League post-season work?

"I have really enjoyed my time at the club this season. Results and our league position have not gone to plan but this is a great club and I am delighted to be part of it for the next few years.

"I will be looking to knuckle down and make the most of this opportunity to help get the team back to where we want to be at the top of the table.

"The young lads have had a tough experience this year and some of the senior boys too have been going through some new emotions this year but I am confident we can come through stronger from the lessons we have learnt together."
