The 2019 Man of Steel awards will be opened up to fans for the first time and include the unveiling of the Dream Team, Super League chiefs have confirmed.

A series of weekly votes from a panel of former elite players chaired by Ellery Hanley will culminate in a new-look awards ceremony at The Lowry Theatre in Salford on October 6.

As well as existing awards such as top try scorer, young player and coach of the year, a number of new awards will include a fans' player of the year while the Dream Team will be announced based on the Man of Steel points standings.

For the first time, the awards ceremony - which is traditionally a black tie occasion - will be a ticketed event open to Super League fans who will be encouraged to attend in their club colours.

The changes continue the revamping of rugby league's most prestigious individual award by Super League chief executive Robert Elstone and his new team.

On the announcement, Hanley said: "I speak on behalf of all the panellists when I say that it has been a huge privilege so far this season to watch amazing athletes on display each week in the Betfred Super League.

"For one player, they will receive the ultimate individual accolade, the Steve Prescott Man of Steel Award on October 6 recognising their outstanding performances during the season.
