Bill Belichick confirmed on Tuesday morning that Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski were present as New England Patriots began a three-day mini-camp.

Brady was with the team on Monday for a fan experience event but, alongside Gronkowski, skipped the voluntary portion of the off-season.

However, both were alongside the rest of their team-mates when the squad got together at Gillette Stadium to continue the countdown to the 2019 season.

"It's good to have all players here," said head coach Belichick before full-squad workouts got underway.

Both men have been the subject of typical off-season speculation about their future, but Gronkowski was quick to play down talk of friction with the coach.

"It's good. Everything is good," he said. "It just felt really good to be back out on the field, and that's what matters most. I enjoyed it a lot, I love playing the game of football.

"The game of football is fun when you're feeling good, and if you're not feeling good - I mean myself, I've asked many other players - you really don't like the game of football."

When asked about signing a new contract, he said: "Who wouldn't?" Although he was a little more coy on just how close to signing, saying: "I don't know. We're trying to."

NFL Network have reported he "would like another contract" with the Patriots, who have given him $8m in bonuses and a $14m base salary for the upcoming season.

The contract rift comes on the heels of reports in the final weeks of the 2017 regular season that the relationship between Belichick and Brady had soured - a report that both players denied and Belichick was again quizzed on the pair's harmony, giving question short shrift.

"I've always had a good relationship with Tom," Belichick said.
