Moving back to Mavericks is a move George Fisher made with heart and head. It’s the place where she learnt her netball and it will also bring her closer to the University of Hertfordshire where she is doing a degree in Sports Studies.

It may have come as a shock to many that after two successful seasons at Wasps, Fisher decided a change was on the cards but it's far from all change for the shooter.

A familiar franchise came calling and secured Fisher's signature, with Mavericks confirming earlier this month that the rising England star would be back in black and purple for 2019.

Fisher, a Hertfordshire native, believes she is going 'home' and to the place where her passion for netball was lit and burns brighter than ever.

"Obviously Mavs are based in Hertfordshire, so it will make it easier for me to get to training," she told Sky Sports.

"I just struggled a bit in the first year - my grades started slipping a small bit and I thought staying closer to uni would really help me because I’d have a lot more time there.

"Mavericks is the place where I first started playing netball and I realised there that netball was something I want to do.<p>I’ve always said I’d come home, so I have."

Fisher shared court-time with experienced shooter Rachel Dunn last year at Wasps but it's been a summer of change for the back-to-back champions with Tamsin Greenway stepping aside from her position as director of netball. However, Fisher insists that had no influence on her decision.

"Tamsin was an incredible coach and I’m lucky enough to still have her coaching me while I’m at uni," she said.

Mavs have announced that England player Sasha Corbin will be back with the franchise next season alongside defender Lindsay Keable - both bring with them an array of experience, as the franchise chase a return to the top four.

"Sasha is one of the best mid-courters out there with feeds of pinpoint accuracy. It’ll be really cool to work with her too and also Lindsay at the back who has loads of experience.

"I’ve never been coached by Kat [Ratnapala] but she really seems genuine, a really good coach. She laid it all out on the line and was really honest with me and I think that having someone like that is really important."

The signing season has been in full swing, with experienced players coming to the UK from Suncorp Netball in Australia while some of the most talented British players are penning their first contracts Down Under.

Fisher insists she was always going to return to Mavs, but was there any temptation to go elsewhere?

“If I’m being honest, I think that I would have either stayed at Wasps or gone to Mavs," she adds.

"I knew what the set-up was like at Wasps and I did really like it but being at Mavs was also something I really enjoyed and I didn’t want to put myself out there for anywhere else at this point.

"There’s been quite a lot of movement with Serena coming back and then Cat Tuivaiti at Sirens - that’s insane! It’s going to be a good year, our league is just getting stronger and stronger every year so there are good teams and strong players.

"It will be interesting to watch this season - I think it’ll be a good one, a close one anyway."

All teams will be vying for their chance to take the Superleague title following domination by Wasps, champions in 2017 and 2018. As a result, Fisher is hoping to earn a third consecutive title.

“Obviously we want to get to the top four to try and win the Superleague," she said. "But personally, I just want us as a team to really grow, be a really strong squad, have a lot of fun, and really enjoy it."
