benecos Mavericks have landed a huge coup in bringing England shooter George Fisher to the club from reigning Vitality Superleague champions Wasps.

After two Championship winning seasons with Wasps, Fisher has opted to return to the franchise, having begun her netball career in the Mavericks Pathway systems with the U19 NPL squad and eventually earning a Superleague debut in the 2015/16 season.

A hugely successful two years with Wasps followed as Fisher broke into the starting seven and scored almost 600 goals last season on the way to a second Superleague title, but the Hoddesdon-born shooter will line up in Mavericks purple next year.

"I'm really excited about coming back to Mavericks as it is the place where I started my netball career and where I realised netball was a true passion of mine," Fisher said.

"It's always been like home for me as I started playing here when I was only 13.

"I have loved my last two years at Wasps and have learnt so much about my sport, winning two Superleague titles was amazing and it was incredible to be part of the start of something.

"But I feel now is the right time for me to be coming home and I'm excited about what this season could bring."

Fisher has been named in the 2018-19 England full-time programme and will shortly link up with the Roses squad in New Zealand for the Fast5 Championships and then in Jamaica for the International Series against the Sunshine Girls.

The England shooter joins captain Sasha Corbin and vice-captain Lindsay Keable on the Mavericks roster for the 2019 season, much to the delight of director of netball Kathryn Ratnapala.

"I'm absolutely thrilled that George has made the decision to come home to Mavericks," she said.

"She has always been a star in our eyes and we are excited to get her back into the purple and black dress and out onto court as quickly as possible."
