The Scottish FA are set to finalise a shortlist of preferred candidates to replace Alex McLeish as Scotland manager within the next 48 hours.

McLeish was sacked as head coach last month after suffering a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Kazakhstan in their opening game of Euro 2020 qualifying.

Although a 2-0 win over San Marino followed - the SFA decided it was time for a change after 14 months in charge.

Scottish FA Chief Executive Ian Maxwell is expected to finalise the due diligence process this week and advise the SFA board of his plans going forward.

Despite the shortlist being unknown, a host of managers have been linked with the role including former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson as well as Kilmarnock's Steve Clarke.
