Caretaker manager Alan Curtis says Swansea need a new manager with experience

Swansea caretaker manager Alan Curtis thinks a hardened Premier League boss may be who the club should turn to at their hour of need.

The Swans are looking for their third manager of the season after Bob Bradley was dismissed following the 4-1 loss to West Ham on Boxing Day, and have since approached Wales manager Chris Coleman, according to Sky sources.

All-time Premier League great Ryan Giggs was in the running when Bradley was hired and is now considered one of the leading candidates to replace him.

But his experience as a manager rather an assistant constitutes just four games as an interim player-boss at Manchester United.

And, with Swansea 19th in the Premier League table and four points adrift of safety, Curtis thinks a veteran coach may be the best bet.

"They have to be experienced," said Curtis. "Whether it is someone experienced in the Premier League or experienced in general.

"Ryan's name might come up in the course of the conversation.

"Ryan has not had experience of management but, in terms of experience as someone who has been in the Premier League, then it would be immense.

"But I suppose ideally it would be someone with experience, who can handle a group of players who are going through a little bit of a confidence crisis at the moment."

Curtis agrees that Giggs has what it takes to be a top boss, adding: "I'd like to see him given a chance, I am not saying at our club but, whoever comes in, it has to be the right man.

"I suppose ideally they would be British, would know the Premier League, but they have to be satisfied he fulfils all the criteria for getting us out of the trouble we find ourselves in."

Meanwhile, club legend Curtis, who acted as an interim manager last season after the departure of Garry Monk, will be in charge of Saturday's home game against Bournemouth alongside fellow first-team coach Paul Williams.

"I have been in this situation before, it does feels a bit like Groundhog Day," Curtis added.

"It is a game-to-game basis.

"Somebody could come in as we speak, tomorrow or by the weekend, but I will be in charge on Saturday and we will take it from there.

"We have a game at Palace on Tuesday and we will prepare accordingly, depending on circumstances.

"We have picked the team for the weekend and we concentrate on that game."
