Wolves’ bid to sign Rubin Kazan striker Sardar Azmoun has fallen through, according to Sky Sports News.
A £1.7m loan fee had been agreed with the Russian club, with an option for a permanent move to the Premier League club for £11.5m in the summer.
But the proposed move has collapsed because Kazan want it as an obligation to buy in the summer, while Wolves would only agree to an option to buy.
Azmoun, dubbed the 'Iranian Messi' in his homeland, is also still in Russia and Wolves were unwilling to commit to pursuing the deal as the player would have struggled to undergo a medical and conclude a move.
The 24-year-old, who played in last summer's World Cup, scored four times during Iran's run to the Asian Cup semi-finals, where they lost to Japan on Monday.
Azmoun first joined Kazan in 2013, and returned to the club in 2017 after a two-year spell at Rostov.
