Jamie Vardy has been warned his card will be marked when he sets out to equal a Premier League scoring record on Saturday.

The Leicester striker missed out on England's two friendlies with a hip injury but could return for his club at Newcastle as he pursues Ruud van Nistelrooy's 10-game scoring streak.

Vardy has scored in each of his past nine league games, and unsurprisingly his form has not gone unnoticed on Tyneside, where a defence featuring Dutch international Daryl Janmaat will be waiting.

Janmaat and Mike Williamson (now on loan at Wolves) were both sent off for fouls on Vardy when the sides met in May, and the full-back insists Newcastle know what is in store for them.

"We will be doing everything so that he won't be scoring against us," said Janmaat.

"We'll have to prepare for him. I hope we can stop him. But we know that won't be easy as he is so quick. We have some quick defenders though - I'm not sure who is the fastest, maybe me.

"Whoever is up against Vardy, we'll have to be ready for him. It's not just that pace - he's a good player and very confident right now. He is doing so well for Leicester.

Newcastle won just once in their opening 10 games of the season but have won two and drawn one of their last four.

"We feel like we have turned things around a little bit," Janmaat said. "That was very important for the manager and for us as well.

"We want to try to finish in the top 10 and I think that's possible with the players that we have. We shouldn't be down at the bottom, but it's up to us to carry on making steps forward."
