Do you know your Ndong from your Martins Indi? Which former Bolton man have Chelsea splashed £24m on?

Amid the flurry of Deadline Day deals, you'd be forgiven for missing a few big movers, so here, we bring you the lowdown on some of the lesser-known signings from the continent...

Didier Ndong (Lorient to Sunderland)

Sunderland have broken their transfer record by signing Lorient midfielder Didier Ndong for a fee £13.6m on a five-year contract.

Gabon international Ndong, 22, will no doubt be utilised in a defensive midfield role, where he played 34 times for the Ligue 1 side as they finished 15th last season.

Ndong gets himself about in midfield and loves a mazy run forward, leading Lorient vice-president Alex Hayes to describe him as the next Michael Essien.

His pass completion rate has been in the high-80s with Lorient, though he did commit the second-highest number of fouls in Ligue 1 last term, picking up 11 yellow cards to boot.

"Maybe the Sunderland fans don't know me yet, but I promise that they will quickly discover that I will give everything for them and the club," he said upon signing.

Marcos Alonso (Fiorentina to Chelsea)

Despite being linked with Wolfsburg's Ricardo Rodriguez all summer, Antonio Conte's targeted left-back spot has been filled by former Bolton man Marcos Alonso, signing from Fiorentina for £24m.

The 25-year-old is set for his third spell in the Premier League, having played for Bolton between 2010 and 2013, and spending a six-month loan spell with Sunderland in 2014.

Alonso, who came through the Real Madrid academy and has represented Spain at U19 level, made 75 appearances in all competitions for Fiorentina in two seasons with the club, helping the Italian side to a fifth-placed finish in Serie A last campaign.

Just 12 months ago Alonso was being linked with a move to Norwich, but a number of impressive showings in Serie A earned him a new five-year deal in January.

Conte likes what he sees from his time watching Serie A last season, and Chelsea have got a full-back with intelligence on the ball and an attacking prowess.

Merson's transfer grades

Paul Merson runs the rule over which sides did the best business...

He isn't the fastest, but will either provide competition for Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back, or see his fellow Spaniard move to right-back. Options, options; and that's exactly what Conte wanted.

"I'm very happy," Alonso said upon signing. "It's a step up in my career and I think this is the perfect place for me to continue developing. It's time for me to win some titles."

Bruno Martins Indi (Porto to Stoke City)

Stoke have signed Dutch defender Bruno Martins Indi from Porto on a season-long loan.

The Netherlands international is surplus to requirements at the Portuguese club and Stoke will have an option to sign him on a permanent basis after his loan is completed.

Martins Indi has 31 international caps for the Netherlands and was a key figure in the team which reached the World Cup semi-finals under Louis van Gaal in 2014.

The 24-year-old was routinely linked to Manchester United when Van Gaal was in charge, and has finally got his move to the Premier League.

The centre-back can also play at left-back, and has fallen out of favour at Nuno Espirito Santo's Porto since the manager joined in the summer.

Speedy, powerful and good aerially, Martins Indi was once dubbed the next Jaap Stam, and though his career has stalled somewhat in Portugal, he should fit in seamlessly with Mark Hughes' side as fellow defender Philipp Wollscheid heads to Wolfsburg.

Pau Lopez (Espanyol to Tottenham)

A deal that bubbled under the surface for the last few weeks, goalkeeper Pau Lopez finally sealed a season-long loan move to Tottenham from La Liga side Espanyol.

The 21-year-old stopper hasn't been taken up as manager Quique Sanchez Flores' first choice, with the former Watford manager bringing in Roberto from Olympiakos to take up the number one shirt.

This lead to a reunion with Spurs boss Maurcio Pocettino, who was first-team manager at Espanyol as Pau - as he is simply known - was coming through the youth ranks to cover for the injured Hugo Lloris.

His specialties include great on-the-line saves and does well aerially. Lopez is familiar to fans for his apparent stamp on Lionel Messi as well as squaring off with Luis Suarez during a feisty Copa del Rey tie with Barcelona in January.

Indeed, he has no love for the current La Liga champions who are local rivals to Espanyol, commenting on the league title race last season: "I don't care, as long as Barcelona don't win the title. It could be any team from Madrid for me."

This will already been brownie points on the board for Tottenham fans with two north London derbies with Arsenal coming up, and will be hoping for the same passion from their new goalkeeper.

Islam Slimani (Sporting to Leicester)

Leicester left it late to get their man but late on deadline day, the Premier League champions confirmed the signing of forward Islam Slimani on a five-year deal.

The Foxes had a £25m bid turned down by Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday, but they returned with an improved bid - and thought to be the third time they have broken their club record transfer fee in this window alone.

He has the perfect back story the epitomised Leicester's meteoric rise to top flight glory, and has been compared to new strike partner Jamie Vardy.

The Algeria international has been the underdog for much of his career, but has put in a number of committed, hard-working performances that have caught the eye over the last few years.

"He excels in a duel and has superhuman endurance levels," Maisfutebol journalist Vitor Hugo Alvarenga says of Silmani. "I think he would fit just perfectly at Leicester. He has power in his game, something crucial to play in the Premier League."

Georges-Kevin N'Koudou (Marseille to Tottenham)

A transfer saga to rival that of Paul Pogba to Manchester United, Georges-Kevin N'Koudou was confirmed as a Tottenham player late on Wednesday after training with the club for the last week.

The deal was held up as Clinton N'Jie sorted a season-long loan move in the other direction to Marseille and will be hoping to make a bigger impact than his fellow winger.

N'Koudou can play on either flank and would add width to a squad light on natural wingers. His pace and power is well suited to Tottenham's dynamic attacking style, and fits the profile of Tottenham's young squad.

Pochettino's attacking players are expected to work tirelessly and press high up the pitch when the opposition have possession, and N'Koudou showed his appreciation for that side of the game in an interview with French newspaper La Provence last July.

"Before attacking, you have to know how to defend well," he said. "That is what is asked of us in training: press, press and press, and when you are in the danger zone, that's when everyone attacks. It's a style of play that suits me."
