George Groves has called out WBC challenger Callum Smith, but even though he is a fan of The Saint, Paul Smith points out it won't happen - and says the roles are reversed...

I am glad to see George Groves back because I like the lad, but he has a long road ahead of him - and Callum Smith is on a different route now.

First of all, I didn't see any real improvements against Andrea Di Luisa on Saturday night but that didn't really surprise me.

There was no point calling out Callum Smith out, even before the fight with Hadillah Mohoumadi was officially confirmed. In my opinion the only reason why Groves wants it is because Callum's now the number one challenger in the WBC.

He's got a new trainer in Shane McGuigan and it is very early days for him but without having a dig, I can't say I have seen him get that much better since he beat me five years ago - and certainly since that first fight with Carl Froch.

McGuigan will try and bring the best out of him, but it is early days. Groves is a work in progress and McGuigan needs to establish a good routine and what they need to work on.

He has got that great jab which is one of the best I've been in the ring with, like Arthur Abraham's, who he has already been linked with.

In my opinion, the only reason why Groves wants it is because Callum's now the number one in the WBC division and will be the mandatory to face Badou Jack.

When George was number one and Callum was number three and my brother wanted it, it didn't happen, but now it is complete role reversal.

Right now it will be a backward step for Callum and while I do think it would've been a great fight about six months ago, George - unfortunately for him - is now behind him on the rankings.

Groves says he will fight anyone after he beat Di Luisa in the fifth round

If Callum beats Mohoumadi he will be the mandatory position, so he doesn't need Groves any more.

Don't get me wrong, a fight between them is a great money fight - a bit like Martin Murray and me has been mentioned as well.

It was a possibility but I haven't fought since June and I've never been one to mouth off just to stay relevant. I am just looking to get back in and I will get back in and have a couple of six or eight-round comeback fights and then look for another world title shot.

Of course, Callum could be one of them by then, so that won't happen, but there will be others out there. The big domestic fights are great and although fighting Martin would be great, he is a friend, a good lad but everyone else seems to get a 'comeback' fight, so why can't I?

I am looking at March, April or May and maybe a couple of warm-ups. Then I will be back up there. But not yet.
