Taylor vs McCaskill: Jake Ball ready to shine at York Hall and get title collection underway

By Matt Horan

Jake Ball is determined to start "strap hunting" in the light-heavyweight ranks and 'The Blade' wants to kick off proceedings in style with victory on Wednesday night.

After winning a gruelling ten-round English title eliminator over Joe Sherriff last time out, Ball returns to York Hall to take on another domestic contender in Miles Shinkwin, as the pair battle for the vacant WBA Inter-Continental belt as part of a stacked show live on Sky Sports.

The 25-year-old admits that he learnt a lot about himself in that points win and now Ball wants to end the year on a high before targeting further titles in 2018.

I'm ready to continue my winning run at York Hall then next year I want to go strap hunting, it's going to be a big year for me.

"Being honest with you, that Sherriff encounter was a great learning fight," Ball exclusively told Sky Sports. "It was nice to face someone who could take shots and come back firing, it forced me to grind out a win.

"It was my first time doing ten rounds so that's a box ticked in the pro ranks and having to deal with the problems of my hand throughout was another one gladly ticked off.

"I've got a really positive outlook on things now and I feel great. Shinkwin is another tough opponent and I want and need to be in these fights, I've left no stone unturned and with a ranking and a beautiful belt up for grabs, I'm ready to produce the goods."

The fight marks Ball's fifth visit to the iconic York Hall in the professional format and it has so far been a favourable hunting ground for the Surrey fighter.

With the domestic scene starting to bubble nicely, Ball is ready to throw his name in the mix, Liam Conroy's English title one prize firmly in his sights.

"There is just something about York Hall that I love, I'm four wins from four there and ready to continue the streak next week. It's a great venue, the crowd and atmosphere really is amazing," he added.

"I'm certainly not overlooking this fight, but I'm determined to get the win and finish the year on a high. Shinkwin is my priority and my sole focus, but I'm hoping to impress and push on from here.

"Next year I want to go strap hunting, it's going to be a big year for me.

"I want as many belts as possible and I will fight whoever. I'm always in the gym grafting and training so I'm ready for any opportunity. Conroy's English title of course is one I would love so hopefully that fight can be made sooner rather than later."
