David Haye claims he has heard rumours that Anthony Joshua may be set for an explosive re-match with Dillian Whyte and says it is a fight he would like to see.

Promoter Eddie Hearn earlier claimed that recently-crowned IBF heavyweight champion Joshua is set to choose an opponent for his first defence of the title from a three-man shortlist of Bermane Stiverne, Eric Molina and Dominic Breazeale.

However, Haye threw another name into the mix by claiming a re-match with Whyte may be on the cards instead.

Whyte, who beat Joshua as an amateur, gave the 26-year-old his toughest professional test to date before being knocked out in the seventh round.

Since then Joshua (16-0-KO16) has claimed the IBF belt with a second round stoppage of Charles Martin, with his next bout likely to be staged at The O2 on June 25.

"Breazeale and Stiverne sound great but there is a bit of word around of a Dillian Whyte re-match that I've heard through the grapevine - that would be a great fight," Haye told Sky Sports News HQ. "I'm not sure if he is ranked in the top 15 but if he can get ranked then that is a fight I'd like to see.

Anthony Joshua thinks fighting Tyson Fury would be easier than a bout against Haye

"It'll actually be more entertaining than the last fight. Although he got knocked out in seven rounds by Joshua, it was a good fight for seven rounds. He is not going to come out and get knocked out by the first punch.

"All these other guys, we don't know anything about them. They are all unknown but one thing we do know about Joshua is he has got punch power in abundance and he can rise to the occasion.

"I would like to see if he could get through [Whyte] a bit smoother this time around and show a world-class performance as opposed to a domestic-class performance."

Haye, who is in training for his bout with Arnold Gjergjaj on May 21, also revealed he has an opponent lined up for Shannon Briggs on his undercard that night - and re-iterated that he will fight the American if both men win.

"At the moment we are looking at a good, solid opponent for him. I put a name to him and he said yes, so it is a decent fight, but I am not going to mention it until the board of control have sanctioned it.

"So as far as I'm aware he is fighting on the undercard and, if he can beat this guy, then we are going to get it on and I'll knock him out."
