Shinsuke Nakamura became the first Japanese wrestler to claim a major WWE championship as he beat Samoa Joe at TakeOver: Brooklyn II to win the NXT Title.

Nakamura, who only debuted on the NXT brand in April, won a see-saw battle following two Kinshasa kicks as Joe's 121-day reign with the title came to an end inside The Barclays Center.

The King of Strong Style, whose entrance music was played live by violinist Lee England Jr, survived a vicious Muscle Buster and a Coquina Clutch attempt from the champion before winning via pinfall.

Bayley, meanwhile, failed to regain the NXT Women's Championship from Asuka, despite putting in a brave display at the same venue in which she beat Sasha Banks precisely 12 months ago.

The Californian overcame multiple Asuka Locks from her hard-hitting opponent before being downed by a venomous kick to the head that allowed Asuka to complete the three-count.

The champion showed ample respect to her challenger, though - the two embracing in the middle of the ring prior to Asuka heading to the back and letting Bayley soak up the adulation from the crowd.

Elsewhere, two debutants made their mark - Bobby Roode, who had choirs singing his music as he descended from the heavens, bested Andrade "Cien" Almas with a Glorious Bomb, and Ember Moon floored Billie Kay with a diving stunner from the ropes.
