Manchester City have agreed a £26.5m fee to sign Danilo from Real Madrid, according to Sky sources.
The versatile 26-year-old is understood to be considered as competition for both right-back and left-back positions by boss Pep Guardiola.
Chelsea were in talks over a deal for the Brazilian defender, who was second-choice right-back at Real for much of last season, but City appear to have beaten them to it just days after making Kyle Walker football's most expensive defender.
Guardiola is also in talks to sign Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy and also believes Danilo is also capable of playing in a holding midfield role in his system.
Danilo started 17 times in La Liga for champions Real last season, but Dani Carvajal was preferred for most big games including the Champions League final.
Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna, Pep Guardiola's two regular right-sided defenders in his first season at City, have both left the Etihad.
