Rangers have confirmed the arrival of Arsenal midfielder Jon Toral on loan for the rest of the campaign.

The 21-year-old Spaniard re-joins manager Mark Warburton after working with him during a previous loan spell at Brentford.

He had been on loan at Grenada in La Liga for the first half of the season but was recalled by the Gunners after playing only six times.

Toral arrived in Glasgow on Tuesday to complete a medical and finalise the switch.

The Spain youth international moved from Barcelona's academy to Arsenal alongside Hector Bellerin in 2011, when he was aged 16.

At Brentford, under Warburton, he scored six goals in 32 appearances in the Championship. He also spent time on loan at Birmingham last season, where he made 36 appearances and scored eight goals.

Toral is pleased to be working under his former manager, saying: "Mark came with the proposal for me to come here. He came out [to Spain] and had a chat and it was great to catch up.

"He said I would enjoy it a lot and I know I'm going to enjoy playing under him again because I really did have a nice time with him at Brentford.

"Mark plays a very similar to style to the way we do at Arsenal. He has a connection with the boss at Arsenal and it suits players from there to come up here on loan.

"Arsene knows Mark quite well and knows he's a very good manager, so he's very keen to send players to teams that Mark manages."
