Former Aston Villa manager John Gregory hopes to emulate Marco Materazzi and bring the Indian Super League title back to Chennai.

Gregory succeeds World Cup winner Materazzi as head coach of Chennaiyin FC, who count Indian cricketer MS Dhoni and Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan among their co-owners.

Materazzi spent three seasons in charge of the Tamil Nadu-based outfit, leading them to the ISL title in 2015.

Gregory said: "I am very excited to have joined Chennaiyin FC and would like to thank the club owners for believing in me and giving me this wonderful opportunity.
