British No 1 Johanna Konta has withdrawn from the Connecticut Open due to a viral illness.
The 27-year-old, who beat German Laura Siegemund 6-2 7-5 on Monday, was scheduled to face Carla Suarez Navarro but tournament organisers announced she had pulled out beforehand, giving her opponent a walkover win to the quarter-finals.
She has also withdrawn from the doubles competition with American partner Nicole Melichar.
The event at New Haven is the final warm-up event before the US Open, which begins on August 27.
The world No 46 goes into the tournament in New York unseeded, while Serena Williams has been seeded 17th, nine spots higher than her current ranking of No 26.
Simona Halep is the women's top seed with Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki second, American home-favourite Sloane Stephens third and Wimbledon winner Angelique Kerber seeded fourth.
