American qualifier Denis Kudla defeated Greek teenager Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 6-4 at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle on Wednesday, as both players demonstrated their immaculate volleying skills on grass.
Greek star Tsitsipas has rocketed into the top 40 this season, with the highlight a run to the Barcelona Open final. His signature single-handed backhand and a crowd-pleasing flair was on display during his second-round clash with Kudla.
But the American held his own in a match that showcased both players incredible volleying techniques after a couple of lung-busting rallies.
Kudla came out on top in the end to reach the quarter-finals where he will play Japan's Yuichi Sugita.
