Donna Vekic held her nerve to stun top seed Johanna Konta and win the final of the Aegon Open in Nottingham.
The 20-year-old Croatian, and world No 70, won 6-2 6-7 (7-3) 7-5 in two hours and 31 minutes to deny Konta what would have been her first grass-court title.
After losing the opening set in 38 minutes, Vekic found her range in the second before edging a topsy-turvy third.
Konta, who was attempting to win her third WTA Tour title of 2017, was broken in the opening game of the decider before breaking back in game six.
However, the Sydney-born Brit was broken again in the 11th as Vekic responded by winning 12 of the last 16 points en route to collecting the second WTA Tour title of her career.
The first arrived as a 17-year-old, more than three years ago, and Sunday's win over the world No 8 will set up for a strong run at Wimbledon which starts in 15 days' time.
Sunday's defeat will have come as a major disappointment for Konta who reached the final without dropping a set.
And there was also a British defeat in the doubles final as Jocelyn Rae and Laura Robson lost 6-4 4-6 10-4 to the Aussie pairing of Monique Adamczak and Storm Sanders.
Meanwhile, in the Netherlands, Estonia's Anett Kontaveit scooped up her maiden WTA Tour title with a straight sets victory over Natalia Vikhlyantseva.
The 21-year-old from Tallinn, ranked 49th in the world, eased to a 6-2 6-3 win over the even younger Russian in just 73 minutes.
A delighted Kontaveit said: "I'm just so excited. It's been amazing for me, I had really tough matches and I'm so happy to be through them and to win the final."
