Laura Siegemund clinched her maiden WTA Tour title on Sunday with a 7-5 6-1 victory over Katerina Siniakova in the final of the Ericsson Open in Sweden.

The No 6 seeded German cruised past her opponent from the Czech Republic, needing just 83 minutes on the clay of Bastad.

She won 75% of points on first-serve and faced only one break point during the match, and ended the contest by winning nine of the last 10 games.

Siegemund had reached the final after her compatriot Julia Goerges was forced to retire on Saturday during the deciding set.

The new champion said: "This is one of my favourite tournaments and I can't believe I won this one.

"I was in good shape, and was playing well last week as well. I knew I could do well here but winning the whole thing is something you might not really expect or think about.

"I got a new perspective on tennis. It's a great sport, and that kind of gave me some freedom on the court to try things and change my game."

She will compete at next month's Olympic Games in Rio and may even be seeded at the final Grand Slam event of the season at Flushing Meadows.

The 92nd-ranked Siniakova, had also been chasing her first WTA Tour title.
