Feliciano Lopez secured the first clay court title of his career on Sunday when he beat Dutchman Robin Haase in straight sets at Gstaad.
The 34-year-old Spaniard, who has always played his best tennis on the faster surfaces, emerged victorious from the final of the Swiss Open which he won 6-4 7-5 in 79 minutes.
The top-seeded Lopez, ranked 21 in the world, claimed the only break of the first set in game five, before recovering from 0-3 down in the second to clinch the title on his first match point.
He had previously lost in three clay court finals on the ATP Tour, including this tournament in 2006.
His victory over the world No 95 Haase earned Lopez a fifth Tour title, and the new champion was ecstatic following his success: "It's an amazing feeling, I've been waiting 10 years to win this event.
"It's been a long wait since 2006 but it's been worth it. This is a very special tournament, with a lot of tradition, where a lot of Spaniards have won in the past. It's a unique place to play."
