Dan Evans and James Ward advance at Australian Open qualifying

Dan Evans and James Ward both recorded straight-sets victories in their opening Australian Open qualifying matches to move within two wins of the main draw.

Evans converted two of his four break points, while only losing his serve once to knock out the top seed Luca Vanni with a 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 triumph.

Ward served strongly and sent down 16 aces as he won 75% of the points on his first serve on his way to beating Canada's Peter Polansky 7-6 (8-6) 6-4.
