Nick Kyrgios lost control of his emotions during the China Open final against Rafael Nadal, in which he received a point penalty following a series of verbal disagreements with the umpire.
The world No 19 was aiming for his first title of the year but fell to a convincing 6-2 6-1 defeat in Beijing.
Kyrgios' frustrations began in the opening game of the first set when he bemoaned his fortune after a line judge incorrectly ruled a groundstroke had landed out with the Australian at break point on Nadal's serve.
And from 2-2 in the opening set, Kyrgios fell apart with Nadal winning four games in a row - made easier when Mohamed Lahyani handed a point penalty to Kyrgios during the change of ends at 2-5.
Kyrgios, who admitted last month to struggling with committing to his career since the death of her grandmother two years ago, had enjoyed a strong run of recent form which had seen the 22-year-old win nine out of his previous 11 matches prior to Sunday's final.
