Sale Sharks succumbed to a last-gasp 15-13 Amlin Challenge Cup defeat at the hands of Brive on Monday, a result that extends the French side's Pool Two lead.
In a match switched to Galashiels because of the bad weather, Sale led 13-12 at half-time with Mathew Tait scoring the game's only try.
But Julien Caminati kicked his fifth penalty of the game in the last minute to give Brive a hard-fought win on their travels.
The 'home' side went ahead after three minutes when Brive were caught offside and Nick Macleod slotted the resulting penalty.
Macleod and Caminati traded penalties until the 35th minute when Sale produced a powerful scrum to force Brive backwards, creating room for Tait to sprint over the whitewash.
Macleod's conversion made it 13-9 but Caminati ended the half with his fourth penalty to reduce the gap to a single point.
Neither side produced much in the way of attacking quality in the second period - Caminati's match-winning contribution coming from 30 metres out after Sale were penalised at a scrum.
There was one other Amlin Challenge Cup match re-scheduled for Monday, with Top 14 side Bayonne comfortably triumphing 31-7 away at Cavalieri Prato.
