Head coach impressed after win at Kingston Park

Bath head coach Steve Meehan was delighted with his side's display in the 33-20 victory over Newcastle Falcons. The result ended Newcastle's unbeaten home record this season and moved Bath up to second in the Guinness Premiership table. Bath ran in five tries during an impressive performance that Meehan felt was just reward for their hard work on the training field. "We missed out on the bonus point last week and when you come up to Newcastle you settle for a 3-0 win, but we scored five tries and some of them were crackers," said Meehan. "We're very happy and we're on the right track and these guys have been working hard for the last 16 months. "I was worried when Newcastle came back at us because they do have runners who can damage you, but I knew if we kept on playing as we did in the first-half then we would be okay."

Poor defending

Director of rugby John Fletcher admitted Newcastle's poor defending was the decisive factor in the defeat. "Our defence was appalling," admitted Fletcher. "We were all over the place defensively and it was a nightmare. "There's not a lot you can say to the players, they know. Bath are a good side but we did make it far too easy for them. It was a bad day, we started badly and didn't improve. "When we had the ball we were okay but we didn't put them under any real pressure because when they got the ball, they scored. "We need the break from the Premiership that is coming up and we will look at what sort of squad we can cobble together for the EDF and European Challenge Cup. "We will assess the situation with the World Cup lads when they are back and see what's what, you have to deal with each player on an individual basis and we will do that when they return."
