Team of the week: England dominance and a record-breaking prop feature

There were plenty of eye-catching performances this weekend, but who makes the cut for our team of the week?

15. Tiernan O'Halloran (Ireland)

Two tries on his home debut as Ireland beat Canada 52-21 in Dublin on Saturday. It was all change for Ireland after their heroics against New Zealand in Chicago last weekend and it was far from a classic performance from the Irish, but O'Halloran took his chances while looking solid in defence.

14. Virimi Vakatawa (France)

The sevens star crossed for a hat-trick as France began their autumn campaign with a crushing 52-8 win over Samoa.

Vakatawa's opening try was a beauty as a Wesley Fofana-inspired move saw the ball worked wide for the wing to steamroll his way over, and he displayed searing pace to complete his hat-trick with two minutes remaining.

The Fiji-born back made a whopping 103 metres from 14 carries, beating seven defenders.

13. Huw Jones (Scotland)

Jones had a home debut to remember with two tries against Australia, although we are sure he would have swapped those scores for a Scotland victory. The Scots were dealt a last-gasp blow by the Wallabies once again, falling to a 22-23 defeat.

The Stormers centre caught a kind bounce for his first try on eight minutes before galloping in unchallenged, and he produced a great feint to give Tevita Kuridrani the slip and scamper in for his second on the half-hour.

Jones, who made nine tackles and won a turnover, gained 61 metres from seven carries that included two line breaks, but opposite number Kuridrani had the final say.

12. Owen Farrell (England)

Farrell finished with 19 points, missing just one kick at goal from seven attempts, and he ran a good support line to take Ben Youngs' pass and score England's fourth try.

The 25-year-old's game management was excellent and his powerful carries caused major problems for the Springboks.

11. Waisake Naholo (New Zealand)

Liam Williams is unlucky to miss out but Naholo had a field day against an Italian side that kicked aimlessly to New Zealand's back three.

Naholo made three line breaks and beat eight defenders as he gained 156 metres from a team-high 19 carries.

The Highlanders wing grabbed the try his performance deserved with four minutes remaining as the All Blacks' focus quickly shifted from their defeat by Ireland.

10. Bernard Foley (Australia)

Foley enjoyed a great battle with opposite number Finn Russell, and it is his 100 per cent record from the tee that sees him retain the No 10 position this week.

The fly-half kept the scoreboard ticking over as he put his poor kicking display against Wales behind him. Foley kept the Scotland defence on their toes, again using the inside ball to good effect, and was heavily involved in Reece Hodge's try.

9. Ben Youngs (England)

Pieter-Steph du Toit will be glad to see the back of the England scrum-half. The Springbok bought two dummies from Young in the second half which resulted in tries for half-back partners George Ford and Owen Farrell.

Youngs' kicking game was excellent also, and he has developed a great understanding with No 8 Billy Vunipola.

1. Rochelle Clark (England)

Honourable mention for Ireland's Cian Healy, who was excellent against Canada, but 'Rocky' makes the cut after her record-breaking performance against Ireland.

Clark, a Worcester Valkyries prop, became England's most-capped player after overtaking her male counterpart Jason Leonard to win her 115th cap.

England, who beat France 10-5 last Wednesday, had to battle hard to beat Ireland and Clark played a key part in the set-pieces and celebrated with a try from a maul.

2. Stephen Moore (Australia)

Moore put in a huge shift for the full eighty minutes and led from the front to help the Wallabies deny Scotland. He made some big carries and was massive in defence as well - matching David Pocock's 13 tackles.

Moore would have been slightly disappointed that a couple of lineouts went awry, but on the whole it was an excellent performance from Australia's skipper.

3. Charlie Faumuina (New Zealand)

Faumuina will hope he has done enough to retain the No 3 shirt for next Saturday's revenge mission in Dublin after a strong outing against Italy.

The New Zealand scrum was rock solid in Rome and Faumuina also impressed in the loose, making 10 carries, four tackles and crossing for their second try.

Wales prop Tomas Francis also impressed, playing the full 80 minutes as they dominated up front and in the scrum against Argentina.

4. Joe Launchbury (England)

Joe Launchbury reacts to his man of the match performance against the Springboks at Twickenham

There were question marks over England's second row after the injuries to George Kruis and Maro Itoje, so Launchbury clearly wanted to make a point regarding his selection against South Africa.

The Wasps captain was faultless in the lineout, claiming 10 of Dylan Hartley's throws. He also made 10 carries and got stuck in at the breakdown, scooping the man-of-the-match award.

Competition was fierce for second row spots, but Launchbury gets the nod ahead of Ultan Dillane and Alun Wyn Jones.

5. Jonny Gray (Scotland)

Jonny Gray is quickly becoming Scotland's Mr Reliable and he produced an incredible defensive effort against the Wallabies.

The Glasgow lock made an outstanding 24 tackles, one more than his brother and second row partner Richie, and he also led the team for carries with 13.

Gray burrowed over for Scotland's third try on 47 minutes but the Dark Blues were to be denied at the death.

6. Chris Robshaw (England)

A fantastic tackle on Rudy Paige which resulted in a turnover underlined the flanker's 80-minute performance.

Robshaw was towards the top of both the tackle and ball-carrying charts, and threw in a lineout steal for good measure in what was another fantastic all-round display.

7. David Pocock (Australia)

PERTH, AUSTRALIA - SEPTEMBER 17: David Pocock of the Wallabies looks on during the Rugby Championship match between the Australian Wallabies and Argentina

He may have started at six for the first time in his Wallabies career, but Pocock was brilliant at the breakdown in Edinburgh.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a great battle with the Scottish back row. He slowed down opposition ball, won some relieving penalties, and was second in the tackle charts with 13.

Pocock also put in a shift in attack with only Israel Folau making more carries, but it was his defensive work that caught the eye.

8. Billy Vunipola (England)

Is the Saracen the best No 8 in the world? We witnessed yet another barnstorming effort from the world player of the year nominee against South Africa.

Vunipola made 19 carries for a gain of 56 metres, beating four defenders. One big carry left Eben Etzebeth seeing stars.

The Boks were sometimes forced to mark Vunipola with three players such was his influence, and that created space for the likes of Ben Youngs to exploit.
